Shocking moment: Singer Lyn looked back on when she first confided her divorce to those closest to her.
On the June 28 broadcast of the SBS variety show My Little Old Boy, Lyn sat down with her close friend, singer Baek Ji-young, for a deep, heartfelt conversation. The two opened up about family, marriage, and the realities of their lives.
As she listened to Baek Ji-young talk about parenting, Lyn said, "I think it's amazing how you built a family and are raising your child so well." Baek replied, "I think the bond between a married couple is the most mysterious and sacred." She continued, "That's why it's true that sometimes it's too hard to keep. Holding on is hard, but breaking up because you can't keep it is even harder," carefully acknowledging Lyn's pain.
Before Lyn announced her divorce last year, she recalled wanting to tell Baek first. "I wanted to tell you before anyone else, so I ran over as soon as my schedule ended," she shared. At the time, after finishing a recording for the variety show Immortal Songs: Singing the Legend, Lyn went to see Baek — and Yoon Jong-shin and Kim Bum-soo were there as well.
Lyn added with a laugh, "I was going to quietly text only you, but then it turned into, 'Se-jin (my real name) has something to say.'" Baek remembered, "As soon as he heard that, Jong-shin said, 'If Se-jin has something to say, it's either divorce or pregnancy.'" Flustered by Yoon Jong-shin's sharp instinct, Lyn said the candid atmosphere actually helped her share what she had been struggling to say.
Feeling sorry, Baek asked, "So did you end up saying it there? Were you trying to tell only me?" Lyn replied, "Everyone just let the moment pass so naturally." She added, "Just saying it out loud felt like I'd officially told someone. Everyone worried about me, and I'm glad it all passed safely."
Lyn married Lee Soo of the group MC the Max in September 2014 and divorced in August of last year, ending their marriage after 11 years.
