Actor Kwak Dong-yeon will fulfill his mandatory military duty, stepping away from fans for a while.

On the 21st, Kwak’s agency The Black Label announced, "Kwak Dong-yeon will enlist as active-duty on August 25, 2026, and faithfully carry out his mandatory service."

He will quietly enter the Army training center without a separate official event. After completing basic training, he will be assigned to his unit and continue his service.

Due to the enlistment schedule, Kwak will not join the tvN variety show Bogum Magical 2, which was slated to film late next month. Kwak teamed up with Park Bo-gum and Lee Sang-yi in the first season that aired earlier this year, but he is stepping down from the new season because of enlistment, with actor Go Kyung-pyo filling the spot.

There is still one chance for fans to see him before he enlists. Kwak is set to participate in the recording of a 10th-anniversary special variety for 'Love in the Moonlight' early next month, which should help ease fans’ disappointment ahead of his departure.

Kwak debuted in 2012 and has since built a solid filmography across various projects. Most recently, he made a special appearance as a crown prince harboring secrets in the Netflix series The East Palace, released on the 17th, greeting global fans.

As the prolific actor pauses his activities to begin military service, attention is focused on his moves before and after enlistment.

Born in 1997, Kwak is 29 years old (international age) this year. He reportedly received his draft notice recently as he approaches 30 next year.
