Seo In-young of girl group Jewelry stunned viewers by introducing the stepmother who raised her for 30 years, finally sharing a deeply buried family story for the first time.
On April 9, a video on Seo In-young's YouTube channel showed her visiting her family home in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province. In the video, she personally introduced her stepmother and candidly talked about her family from childhood to now. Seo said, "My parents divorced when I was in third grade, and I have lived with my stepmother ever since," explaining their long relationship.
She also addressed the term "stepmother" itself. "That word feels sad. Even though it is not a bad word, it seems to carry a negative image," she said. "I want to change that perception." She added, "I truly grew up well, and it was all because of Mom," revealing her deep affection.
What drew the most attention was her stepmother's choice. "Mom never had biological children. She made that choice so there would never be any chance of treating us differently," Seo revealed. "As a kid, I took it for granted, but looking back now, it was such a huge sacrifice," she confessed, adding, "I was so immature back then," in an apology filled with regret.
The family also endured difficult times. Recalling the period marked by Seo's past controversies and health struggles, her stepmother said with teary eyes, "That was the hardest time. The child was very sick." Seo remembered, "Mom was always on my side. Whenever there was conflict with Dad, she stepped in and stopped it in the middle."
Even when Seo had to say goodbye to her biological mother, her stepmother expressed a wish to be by her side, showing genuine care that only strengthened the family's bond. In the video, her stepmother affectionately called Seo her "three-star princess," revealing unwavering love.
