Viral comeback alert: The critically acclaimed original musical roars back for its fifth season after two years, boasting a jaw-dropping 9.9 audience score and a star-studded lineup that’s already igniting major buzz.

On the 20th, Sidereus announced a dazzling cast lineup and unveiled photos from the first meet-and-greet, supercharging anticipation for opening night.
Sidereus springs from the historical fact that 17th-century astronomers Galileo Galilei and Johannes Kepler actually exchanged letters, blending bold imagination with history. Centered on the then-taboo heliocentric model, the show captures the two scholars’ pursuit of truth against the era’s paradigm, their bond, and the weighty choices driven by conviction—moving audiences deeply every season.

Since its 2019 premiere, the production has cemented itself as a signature original musical of Daehakro. The title is drawn from Galileo’s treatise 'Sidereus Nuncius,' meaning 'The Starry Messenger.' Framed around the correspondence between Galileo and Kepler—while adding the perspective of Galileo’s daughter, Maria—the narrative intricately explores how the trio’s relationships and choices intertwine.

In particular, Sidereus has earned raves for its sensorial staging and dense storytelling, using video and lighting to conjure the boundless cosmos on stage. A massive onstage screen evokes the lens of the scholars’ telescopes, gifting audiences the thrilling illusion of staring straight into the vast universe. Lyrical melodies and delicately crafted numbers with dramatic arcs anchor the narrative and amplify the characters’ emotions.

This season’s cast turns heads with a phenomenal blend of rock-solid original members and fresh faces injecting new energy.

Portraying Galileo—the astronomer-mathematician who dives into perilous research after receiving a letter from a mysterious mathematician—are Min-sung Park, Jae-young Ahn, and Ji-cheol Kim. An original member since the premiere, Min-sung Park is set to deliver another masterful performance with his deeply honed character work. Joining him are Jae-young Ahn, who proved his mettle in musicals like Diaghilev and The Goddess is Watching, and Ji-cheol Kim, who drew attention for his captivating tone and nuanced emotions in Fan Letter and The Picture of Dorian Gray—each poised to craft a Galileo uniquely their own.

The role of Kepler—the mathematician-astronomer who proposes a bold collaboration to Galileo—will be played by Se-jung Ki, Hwi Jung, Ji-hwan Ahn, and Byung-hoon Kang, who promise vivid performances brimming with passion and curiosity. Hwi Jung will join the run in mid-July, bringing an added jolt of energy to the show. Ji-hwan Ahn, who showcased one-of-a-kind charm in Night on the Galactic Railroad and Let Me Fly, and Byung-hoon Kang, who clinched the Rookie Award at the Korea Musical Awards and proved his standout acting chops, join as new cast members to mounting excitement.

Alternating as Maria—the daughter torn between her deep love for her father and her faith as a nun—are Sang-a Lee and Nak-won Yoo. Anticipation is high to see the new Maria brought to life by Sang-a Lee, who radiated gravitas in heavy-hitting works like Les Misérables and Life of Pi, and Nak-won Yoo, who displayed an impressive acting spectrum in 42nd Street and Ingan Tamgu Saenghwal.

With the powerhouse lineup revealed, prospective audiences are already on fire. Online communities and social media are overflowing with reactions like "This casting lineup is insane," "I’ve waited forever for this show," "We’re finally getting Sidereus," and "The return of my all-time favorite musical."

Scoring a staggering 9.9 audience rating on both Nol-Ticket and YES24 Ticket—proving its perfect blend of quality and mainstream appeal—Sidereus will run from June 4 to August 30 at Daehakro’s Plus Theater.
