The film 군체 is teasing the birth of overwhelming terror set to rewrite the global zombie genre, unveiling new stills of a terrifying new species.

Opening on May 21, 군체 follows survivors trapped inside a locked-down building after a mysterious outbreak, battling infected that evolve in a completely different way from anything we’ve seen. The film has already drawn major buzz after being officially invited to the Cannes Film Festival’s Midnight Screenings.

On the 28th, distributor Showbox dropped striking “new species” stills for 군체. The images leave a powerful impression, showing infected with jaws wrenched open, heads thrown back as they appear to “share something.”

A blood-soaked infected sprinting at full tilt radiates the tension of an attack about to explode, while others move in bizarre, single-organism formations that reveal them as a connected collective. One infected rises even as both ankles are bent at impossible angles, capturing the moment they evolve in a way completely unlike humans, and a silhouette seen through a slime-coated glass door oozes an uncanny, grotesque mood.

Director Yeon Sang-ho warned, "The greatest fear in 군체 is how it’s getting harder and harder to predict what changes the infected will undergo," promising nail-biting tension. Choreography director Jeon Young added, "The movements where the infected share thoughts and collaborate are truly grotesque. It will be an image the world has never seen."

As these next-level zombie stills keep dropping, comments are flooding in: "On release day, I’m going with my mom," "Let’s hold our partner’s hand tight and watch," and more.
