A shocking and fresh casting lineup — actor Sung Joon, Chuu, and rapper Swings (real name Moon Ji-hoon) — is already turning the upcoming drama into a hot topic.
On the 28th, the global short-form drama platform Lezhin Snack confirmed production of its original short-form series Gwangan and unveiled the star-studded lineup.
The original webtoon Gwangan is a mega-hit, topping Lezhin US’s Romance category for three consecutive years (2022–2024) and ranking No. 1, while placing No. 1–2 domestically on Lezhin Comics’ Romance charts for two straight years. Reborn as a short-form drama, Gwangan promises a tighter, more emotionally charged narrative that amplifies the source material’s power.
The story follows Crown Prince Lee Hyeon, a war hero banished to the Western Palace after losing a power struggle, and Eun-woo, an assassin who disguises herself as a court lady to kill him — only for the two to defy fate and fall in love. By deepening the conflicts between characters and balancing high-stakes tension with well-timed comic beats, the series teases a richly entertaining palace romance.
Sung Joon plays Crown Prince Lee Hyeon, while Chuu takes on the role of the assassin-turned-court-lady Eun-woo, setting up a fresh romantic dynamic. Joining them are Moon Ji-hoon (Swings) challenging himself with a straight-acting role as Namhyul, and veteran Kim Eung-soo as Minister Yeongsang (Yeongsang Daegam), whose gravitas anchors the drama.
Director Jo Bareun, who helms the project, shared, "Every character fulfills their role without a single weak link. Paired with beautiful cinematography, it’s a show all ages can enjoy — we ask for your love and support."
As casting news broke, netizens reacted wildly: "Swings is seriously trying acting," "This combo is so unexpected — I’m definitely watching," and "Can’t wait to see what kind of synergy they create."
Having wrapped all filming and now in post-production, Gwangan will premiere exclusively on Lezhin Snack.
