A global bestseller is being reborn in Korea as a K-drama.
On the 30th, Disney+ confirmed production of the new original series Miracles of the Namiya General Store and unveiled a stacked, 20-member all-star cast.
Miracles of the Namiya General Store is based on Keigo Higashino’s mega-hit novel, which has sold over 13 million copies worldwide. The story follows three petty thieves who hide out in the long-shuttered 'Namiya General Store' and begin replying to letters that mysteriously arrive from the past—setting off a chain of miracles.
The trio of thieves leading the narrative will be played by Kang You-seok of Resident Playbook, Park Jung-woo of Brave Citizen, and Kim Sung-jung of Head over Heels. Veteran scene-stealer Ryu Seung-ryong anchors the drama as Go Min-jung, the central figure of the general store. Rising stars Kim Hye-yoon, Moon Sang-min, and Lee Chae-min join the roster, alongside powerhouse actors Yoon Kyung-ho, Park Hee-soon, and Oh Na-ra. In addition, Yum Jung-ah, Yum Hye-ran, Jung Chae-yeon, and Jang Dong-yoon will make special appearances, completing a formidable lineup.
Fans reacted with explosive excitement: "The casting lineup is insane," "There’s hardly a single face I don’t recognize," and "Since the original is so famous, the adaptation will be key."
Blending the gripping narrative and wondrous world-building of the original with Korea’s signature lyrical sensibility, Miracles of the Namiya General Store is targeting a release next year.
