SBS’s long-running variety show Running Man is facing yet another production shake-up. PD Kang Hyung-seon, who joined less than half a year ago, is stepping down from the program ahead of childbirth.
During the May 24 broadcast opening of Running Man, the staff change was casually announced on-air. Yoo Jae-suk said, "Today’s shoot is PD Kang Hyung-seon’s last," adding, "She’s stepping away to prepare for childbirth." The members expressed regret but still called it "a blessing," sending her off with warm applause.
On-screen captions also made it official, announcing, "Starting next week, we’ll continue the show with a new PD."
PD Kang joined as main PD in December last year, succeeding PD Choi Hyung-in, who led the program for about five years. However, with childbirth approaching, she is leaving after roughly five months.
As a result, Running Man is once again transitioning to a new production team. With this change coming just as the cast’s chemistry was settling in, attention is now on what kind of directorial style will come next.
