Actress Han Da-gam revealed her first baby's gender to her parents, sharing a moving family moment.
On the June 10 broadcast of KBS2 variety show The Return of Superman, the expectant star visited her parents' home with her husband to reveal the gender of their baby, nicknamed "Chalteok-i."
Han Da-gam received an outpouring of congratulations after conceiving her first child at 47. On the show, she said, "I started wanting a child at 44, and after preparing for two to three years, I finally got pregnant at 47." She became pregnant after a single round of IVF and explained that she had prepared her body with steady exercise and health management.
During the episode, Han Da-gam checked on Chalteok-i via an ultrasound at the hospital. When the clear image of the 20-week fetus appeared, the cast marveled, and the exam confirmed the baby is a boy. Han Da-gam laughed, saying, "He proved it perfectly."
After the appointment, the couple headed to her parents' home in Eumseong, North Chungcheong Province. The traditional hanok, complete with a spacious yard and a sarangchae (guest annex), was built by her uncle, a hanok architect. The sarangchae even has a jjimjilbang (Korean dry sauna) that her father prepared for his daughter, catching viewers' attention.
"We came today to finally tell Mom and Dad the gender," she said, clearly excited. Seeing his daughter, her father said, "You're beautiful," showing his unwavering affection, and Han Da-gam playfully replied, "You say that every day," drawing laughter.
Even before the reveal, Dad's intuition stood out. When Han Da-gam said she craved galbijjim (braised beef short ribs), bossam (boiled pork wraps), and jokbal (braised pig's trotters), he quipped, "Then it's a boy." He added that his conception dream featured a huge black serpent.
Han Da-gam then told her parents that Chalteok-i is a boy and handed them the ultrasound printouts. As they gazed at the photos, her parents' eyes welled up, unable to hide their overwhelming emotions. The realization that their daughter is becoming a mother and the anticipation of meeting their grandchild moved the whole family to tears.
The show also shared the parents' honest thoughts, adding to the heartfelt mood. They admitted they avoided mentioning grandkids so as not to pressure their daughter, who married later in life — a silent show of support that lasted for years.
Han Da-gam's mother recalled, "When I heard she was pregnant, I was so overwhelmed I couldn't speak. My eyes filled with tears." She added, "Chalteok, grow up healthy, and please don't make Mom struggle," expressing her love for both her daughter and grandchild.
Meanwhile, Han Da-gam married a businessman one year her senior in 2020.
