In a move shocking fans, former special forces soldier-turned-TV personality Dex is pressing pause on his 1.16 million-subscriber YouTube channel, citing personal reasons and health concerns — and he doesn’t expect to return this year.
On the 18th, Dex told viewers on his YouTube channel that he will suspend uploads for the time being.
When YouTuber Mimiminu asked, "Tell us why you're taking a break from YouTube," Dex replied, "I wouldn’t call this the last video, but I’ll be stepping away for a while."
Dex, who started YouTube right after his discharge from the military in 2020, reflected, "It’s already been six years." He added, "It’s such a shame to pause now. This year, my chemistry with the team has been great, and I’ve been doing what I want — it’s been the most fun I’ve had running this channel."
Still, his reason for a break was clear. "There are personal matters, and I’ve had some condition issues," he explained. "When I put everything together, taking time off felt like the right choice if I want to come back better." He apologized to fans who might find the news sudden.
As for a return timeline, Dex admitted, "I’ve never taken a break this long," and said, "I don’t think I can come back within the year." He continued, "In this industry, you can be forgotten after just a month or two away, so taking a long break is a big decision." Even so, he added, "I didn’t agonize over it for long — the reasons I need to rest are clear."
He also reflected on his future direction. "Looking at it objectively, I felt my position is a bit vague right now," he said. "It seemed like I was dabbling in too many fields. I think this year should be about focusing more deeply."
Chef Kwon Sung-joon supported Dex’s decision, saying, "Dex was never the type to slack off," while Mimiminu added, "He’ll show a new side of himself somewhere else."
Dex closed by promising, "I’ll make a cool comeback. I’ll return with an even better version of myself."
Dex is a UDT (Korean Navy Special Warfare) veteran who rose to mainstream fame through Netflix’s Single's Inferno 2. He has since been active across variety shows and digital content. Recently, he’s expanded into acting with roles in the drama window shopping and Bloodhounds Season 2.
