Actor Ong Seong-wu is teaming up with rom-com queen Park Eun-bin for the first time and shocking viewers with a dramatic image transformation.
tvN’s new weekend drama Spooky in Love has unveiled character stills of Ong Seong-wu, who sheds his gentle image and returns as a mesmerizing villain.
Ong takes on his first-ever antagonist role as Kang Min-hwan, a two-faced figure driven by deep ambition. Reimagined from the beloved original film, the series introduces an original character created just for the drama, played by Ong. Behind his warm, gentlemanly exterior lies a dangerous man craving recognition from his parents and his company, with a relentless desire to claim whatever he wants—even if it means manipulating others’ hearts without hesitation.
Explaining why he chose Spooky in Love, Ong said, "Because the original film was loved by so many, I was excited about the remake," adding, "I thought bringing in Kang Min-hwan, a character not in the original, could add fresh tension."
On tackling his first villain, he noted, "Kang Min-hwan has a very clear goal. When your objective is that defined, any expression or action to achieve it gains its own justification," and continued, "I focused on why Min-hwan behaves the way he does." He added, "People often say I have an upright look. Through this character, I want to show a colder, more chilling aura. I hope viewers respond with, 'So he has this vibe too?'" raising expectations for his image overhaul.
Finally, Ong said, "Please watch how Cheon Yeori (played by Park Eun-bin) and Ma Gang-uk (played by Yang Se-jong) solve some truly spine-chilling cases," highlighting the duo’s teamwork as a key draw. Anticipation is building for Ong’s villainous transformation and the synergy between Park Eun-bin and Yang Se-jong in Spooky in Love.
An occult romance about a chaebol heiress who can see ghosts and a hot-blooded prosecutor who’s terrified of them, Spooky in Love premieres on the 18th at 9:10 p.m. It will also be available on TVING and Netflix.
