Former WINNER member Song Min-ho has admitted wrongdoing in a trial over alleged violations of the Military Service Act, with prosecutors seeking a prison sentence of one year and six months.

At 10 a.m. on the 21st, the Seoul Western District Court Criminal Division 10 (Judge Seong Jun-gyu) held the first hearing for Song Min-ho and Lee, the manager responsible for overseeing his service. Appearing in a black suit, Song stated before entering the courtroom, “I’m sorry for disappointing so many people” and “I deeply reflect on my actions and will faithfully attend the trial.”

The hearing had originally been scheduled for the 24th of the previous month but was postponed after Song’s legal team requested a continuance, which the court accepted.

During the proceedings, prosecutors requested a sentence of one year and six months, noting that Song had acknowledged the charges. In his final statement, he apologized again, saying, “I’m ashamed for showing such behavior. I want to recover my health as soon as possible and, if given the opportunity, I would like to return to service.”

Song Min-ho is accused of being absent without authorization for a total of 102 days between March 2023 and December 2024 while serving as a social service worker at institutions including the Mapo Facilities Management Corporation. After receiving a Level 4 supplemental service classification, he was assigned to the corporation and later transferred to other facilities, including Mapo Resident Convenience Facilities.

Allegations of inadequate service emerged prior to his discharge, including claims of frequent sick leave and poor attendance. Prosecutors described the case as a serious violation of duty, arguing that he abandoned his post without just cause. They also alleged that the supervising administrator was involved in enabling the absences.

Song debuted with WINNER in August 2014 and gained popularity through songs such as ‘REALLY REALLY’ and ‘EVERYDAY,’ as well as appearances on variety programs including ‘New Journey to the West.’ The ongoing case has raised uncertainty regarding his future activities.
