The beloved Naver Webtoon that earned a 9.9 rating during its run and left countless readers in tears is coming to audiences as a musical.
On the 28th, producer Nangman Barricade unveiled the main poster and premiere cast lineup for the musical About Death.
About Death is based on the hit Naver Webtoon of the same name and wrapped a successful reading performance last December. Its signature philosophical insights and iconic lines continue to be quoted, keeping the title widely recognized. News of the musical’s opening is sending anticipation soaring among fans eager to experience the original’s deep emotions on a live stage.
Because the show is a two-hander that demands tightly woven emotions and explosive vocals, Daehangno’s representative actors—known for rock-solid skills and distinct color—are set to lead the production.
First up, bringing gravitas with gentle charisma are Tae-jun Sung, known for musicals like Stravinsky and Spy; Seung-hyun Yoo, who showcased delicate emotional lines and standout character interpretation in The Brothers Karamazov and Narcissus and Goldmund; and veteran Sung-yoon Jo, whose unique performances in Mad Hatter and Diaghilev radiated an unrivaled aura. They will portray the deity who listens to the stories of those who arrive in the afterlife, adding depth to the piece.
Joining them as the Human are Ju-hyeop Shin, who built strong empathy through detailed analysis in Dwarfs and Decembrist; Jwa-heon Park, beloved for trendiness and vitamin-like energy in Pied Piper of Hamelin and Night on the Galactic Railroad; and Chan Kang, who moved audiences with a resonant tone across genres in Williyeom-gwa Williyeom-ui Williyeomdeul and Deungdeunggok. Each performance will deliver perfect synergy with a fresh mix of charms.
About Death paints the very essence of ‘life’ as lived by souls who have crossed the boundary of death. Through varied episodes centered on ‘death,’ audiences can expect a special experience that reflects their own lives. A live trio—piano, cello, and oboe—will further express the characters’ emotions with nuance and richness.
The highly anticipated, hard-hitting tearjerker About Death runs from July 21 to October 11.
