Police are expanding civil lawsuits for damages against hoax threat offenders, including those who posted terror threats targeting BTS’s planned Gwanghwamun concert.

The National Police Agency announced on the 15th that it has decided to file three additional civil damage suits related to false online threat crimes.

In particular, this round will include a 2.28 million KRW damages claim against individuals who posted, regarding the BTS Gwanghwamun concert, "I will fill a water bottle with gasoline and throw it." The stern response reflects the police’s effort to minimize public anxiety and social disruption.

An NPA official said, "We will actively operate the Damages Review Committee to prevent security gaps caused by the waste of public resources and to curb public anxiety."

Separately, police also plan a 1.21 million KRW damages suit against a person who, last December, posted a false online threat to "bomb the Presidential Office, Cheong Wa Dae, the presidential residence, and apartment complexes and buildings in Bundang District."
