Expectant actor Moon Ji-in revealed the process of undergoing a genetic risk test related to developmental disabilities, then apologized after some viewers took issue with the video.
Moon Ji-in recently uploaded a video to her YouTube channel. In it, she and her husband, comedian Kim Ki-ri, document how she came to take a genetic test for Fragile X syndrome while preparing for childbirth.
She explained, "I have a younger brother with a developmental disability," adding that she decided to get tested at her doctor's recommendation. She continued, "I'm my mother's daughter, and the baby I'm carrying is a boy, so I was advised to take the test," openly sharing the anxiety she felt at the time.
While waiting for the results, Moon Ji-in appeared visibly tense. After receiving a normal result, she shed tears of relief. "Those ten days were incredibly tough," she said, expressing gratitude.
After the video was released, many fans left supportive comments like "Wishing you a smooth and healthy delivery" and "You must have gone through so much stress." However, some voiced concern that the content could cause unnecessary anxiety for families of people with developmental disabilities, arguing it might have a negative impact.
Moon Ji-in later apologized in a direct comment. She wrote, "I learned that this kind of test exists and that it's hereditary only when the syndrome is present," adding, "In my shock, I wanted to share information, but my explanation fell short." She continued, "I thought it was a topic families of people with developmental disabilities might have worried about at least once and could discuss. I now understand some felt uncomfortable, and I've learned from it. I'm sorry."
Meanwhile, Moon Ji-in and Kim Ki-ri married in 2024. Moon Ji-in announced her pregnancy two years into their marriage and is expecting their first child in August.
