Actors Gong Hyo-jin (47) and Jung Joon-won (39) are drawing viral attention as they overcome an eight-year age gap to play a picture-perfect married couple in their new drama.
On the 18th, the MBC Friday-Saturday drama Married Woman Killer amped up anticipation by dropping photos from its fiery first table read ahead of the premiere.
The session brought together director Yoon Jong-ho, writer Kim Eun-hee, and lead actors Gong Hyo-jin, Jung Joon-won, Lee Sang-yi, and Sung Dong-il, among others.
Gong Hyo-jin said, "We will work hard so that Married Woman Killer can comfort viewers and help them shake off the stress of the day." Jung Joon-won added, "I will do my best and have fun on set so I can contribute to making this a great project. Please send lots of interest and support." Despite it being their first official meet-up, the cast dove into their roles with such intensity that it felt like an actual shoot.
Their chemistry as a married couple was especially eye-catching. Gong Hyo-jin plays Yoo Bo-na, a legendary sniper code-named "Kingfisher" who is also the head of Sales Team 3 at Durumi Electronics. She fluidly switches between the exhausting daily grind of a typical working mom and the chilling charisma of a cold-blooded killer, showcasing an even broader acting spectrum.
Jung Joon-won transforms into Kwon Tae-sung, a reporter on a newspaper’s investigative desk who can’t stand injustice. He’s a justice-driven hotshot journalist and a deeply devoted husband who adores his wife, a balance he plans to portray in depth.
Scene-stealing veterans also raise the stakes. Lee Sang-yi plays Lee Dong-jin, a lieutenant on the Violent Crimes Team 2 at the Southern Police Station, exuding the sharp edge of an ace detective. Sung Dong-il takes on Kim Bong-pal, the head of Durumi Electronics’ Sales Team 3 and a master at staging accidental death coverups, delivering his signature weighty, seasoned performance.
Fans reacted, saying, "Is this Gong Hyo-jin’s Grand Prize after seven years?", "Gong Hyo-jin is back on MBC after 15 years", and "Their visual match is a bit disappointing," showing a split in early opinions.
Based on a hit webtoon of the same name, Married Woman Killer is a crime thriller that follows the dizzying double life of a working mom with the most dangerous job in the world. It premieres on July 31 at 9:50 p.m. and will also stream on Wavve.
