Shocking case: A Brazilian woman charged with stalking BTS member Jungkook has been given a prison term suspended on probation.
According to the Seoul Western District Court (Criminal Division 1, Judge Park Ji-won), on May 8 the court sentenced the Brazilian national—who was indicted and detained for violating the Anti-Stalking Act and trespassing—to one year in prison, suspended for two years, an outcome disclosed on June 22.
Prosecutors said that from December 7 to 28 last year, she went to Jungkook’s residence in Yongsan-gu, Seoul a total of 22 times, ringing the doorbell or loitering in the area.
She was arrested on the spot on December 13 but continued the behavior despite a police warning to stay away. Police then issued a restraining order barring her from approaching within 100 meters, yet she returned to Jungkook’s home again in January and repeated the offenses.
The court stated, "Even after being arrested in flagrante and warned during police questioning not to approach Jungkook, the defendant continued to commit stalking crimes and failed to comply with emergency protective measures," adding, "The victim (Jungkook) is seeking a severe punishment for the defendant."
However, the ruling also noted that she did not appear to intend physical harm and did not enter the indoor living space, factors the court considered in determining the sentence.
Jungkook has repeatedly spoken out about invasions of privacy. Last year, a Chinese woman attempted to break into his home, and a woman in her 40s entered the parking area of his residence, prompting a police response.
