A mega K-pop project that unites first-generation legend artists as one team is about to be unveiled.
On the 17th, comprehensive content company Gemstone E&M officially announced it has begun production on the new reality music project Five Guys 81 (FIVE GUYS 81). Filming will kick off in May, with plans to reach viewers worldwide via a global platform.
Five Guys 81 follows multiple powerhouse vocalists who represent Korea’s pop scene as they form a single team and re-emerge as a "super vocal group" aimed at the global market. The hook is seeing first-generation artists—who laid K-pop’s foundation—blend with today’s trends to attempt fresh musical experiments.
The project aims to go beyond a typical variety show. Starting with the reality series, it has been planned as a large-scale IP business that extends to a full-length album release, domestic and overseas tour concerts, and diverse content expansions. By organically linking music, broadcasting, and live performance, it seeks to present a model distinct from the conventional K-pop production system.
Another key point is the cast lineup. Like the number "81" in the title, curiosity is mounting over whether artists born in 1981 will take center stage or if a cross-generational mix will come together. With its global ambitions, attention is also on which production team will join.
A Gemstone E&M representative stated, "Five Guys 81 is an unprecedented-scale project that connects K-pop’s past, present, and future," adding, "We will showcase content and music that global fans can truly relate to."
