Director Jang Hang-jun’s box office juggernaut The King's Warden is coming to streaming.
On the 22nd, Coupang Play announced, "We will release The King's Warden via pay-per-view starting on the 29th." This marks its online debut roughly 76 days after its February theatrical release. The King's Warden has surpassed 16.6 million admissions, ranking No. 2 among all Korean films in history, just behind 'The Admiral: Roaring Currents' (17.61 million).
The King's Warden follows the journey of a young, deposed former king exiled to Cheongnyeongpo (played by Park Ji-hoon) and the village head Eom Heung-do (Yoo Hae-jin), who is assigned to watch over him. Reframing the tragic Danjong narrative from history through a fresh lens, the film resonated deeply with audiences.
With its theater run already a full-on phenomenon, all eyes are on whether The King's Warden can spark another wave of word-of-mouth once it hits OTT.
