A fresh, unpredictable superhero story starring actor Park Eun-bin and a crew of wild-card psychics is finally lifting the veil.
On the 15th, the Netflix series The WONDERfools unveiled three unmissable viewing highlights ahead of its release.
The first highlight is the fun of a genre mash-up led by endearingly clumsy heroes. When imperfect people suddenly gain superpowers, the whirlwind of chaos that follows delivers laugh-out-loud comedy and heartwarming empathy in equal measure.
Director Yoo In-shik said, "I wanted to craft a story that leaves you with a feel-good afterglow after enjoying action and comedy," promising both spectacular thrills and the emotional pull of a human drama.
The second is the colorful chemistry of the 'Haeseong City Foursome'—Park Eun-bin, Cha Eun-woo, Choi Dae-hoon, and Lim Seong-jae—each with different abilities like teleportation, telekinesis, adhesive powers, and super strength. Their fantastic teamwork drives the core of the story. Adding to that are the commanding presences of Kim Hae-sook and Son Hyun-joo, plus the fresh energy of the 'Bunderkinder' trio (played by Jung Yi-seo, Choi Yoon-ji, and Bae Na-ra), which cranks up the dramatic tension.
The final hook is the 'end-of-the-century vibe' brought to life by a well-crafted production. Art and sound design vividly recreate 1999, when doomsday theories were all the rage, pulling viewers in at once. From nostalgic props like CD players and graffiti to the sound effects that amplify the superpower sequences, the show doubles down on the appeal of a well-made superhero series.
Set in 1999, The WONDERfools follows a band of small-town misfits who rise up against a turn-of-the-century villain in a superpowered comedy adventure. All episodes drop today at 5 p.m. on Netflix.
