Starring Ryu Seung-ryong and Ha Ji-won, the film Rain Bright is set to hit theaters on September 2.
On the 9th, distributor Playgram announced the news and dropped the official poster and trailer for Rain Bright.
The poster and trailer distill the symbolism of the title Rain Bright and the film’s mood. The poster shows Ryu Seung-ryong from behind, evoking the figure under an umbrella beneath a weeping willow from the hwatu (Korean flower cards) ‘bi-gwang’ card, while the trailer opens with Ha Ji-won’s narration explaining the meaning behind ‘bi-gwang.’
Rain Bright is a family noir about once-famous spouses Jung-gu (played by Ryu Seung-ryong) and Nam-mi (played by Ha Ji-won) whose lives are upended by the arrival of their daughter. Jung-gu, a former top baseball player, falls from grace after his daughter appears—but he’s willing to risk everything to protect her. Nam-mi loses her top-star status and shifts into a day-to-day, working entertainer, yet never turns her back on their daughter.
The story kicks into gear when their daughter Dong-ju gets entangled in a friend’s death, pushing her to the edge. Jung-gu and Nam-mi’s desperate fight to save their child drives the film.
In the film, Ryu Seung-ryong plays Jung-gu, once the best on the mound but now a father who will do anything for his daughter, Dong-ju. Ha Ji-won plays Nam-mi, a former top star who plummets overnight after Dong-ju suddenly enters their lives and now survives as a working entertainer.
The film is directed by Lee Ji-won, whose previous work Miss Baek drew critical acclaim.
